Sixty-three kilometres and about 55 minutes, and the first few of those minutes are the slowest. The car first works back along Süleyman Demirel Bulvarı and Sahil Caddesi to the D400 and only then turns west; in the evening those streets fill with people walking out to dinner. After that the highway runs west past Çolaklı, Serik and Aksu, and late in the afternoon local traffic joins at each of them. On an evening departure the sun sits low and straight ahead for much of the way. The airport approach and the departures drop-off take the final minutes.

• Ask the hotel early whether a late checkout or a day room is possible; it is their decision, and it sets how long you wait beside your luggage.
• Some booking sites and older vouchers still show the previous name; it is the same hotel, so book the return under either and add 'Kumköy'.
• The car collects you from the main entrance, not from the beach section 400 m away, so if you spend the last afternoon on the sand, leave time for the shuttle or the walk back.
