Going home, the first kilometres are village roads: from the hotel up past the edge of Kızılağaç to the D400, where the car turns west. Before dawn the junction lights are the only thing that slows it; by mid-morning delivery vans and local traffic queue at the same lights. The highway then recrosses the Manavgat river on the southern side of the town, and that is the part of the drive that fills first on a summer morning, as town traffic joins it from the side streets.

Past Manavgat the road is the one you arrived on, west by Serik and Aksu, and the 80 km back take about 70 minutes on an ordinary day. With children the departure begins well before the pickup: buggies folded, snacks in a bag that rides in the cabin rather than the boot, the right seats already booked for the return. Gather everyone at the entrance, checked out, at the agreed hour; rounding up a family from the pool and the beach is what usually eats the margin, not the highway.

• Add the flight number to the return booking: Antalya's terminals stand apart from one another, and the number tells the driver which departures kerb to aim for.
• A voucher printed under the hotel's old name is still valid for the pickup, but say Asteria Family Resort Side when you book so the driver looks for the sign that is on the gate today.
• The sea is right in front of the hotel, so a last swim is tempting; end it with time to shower and wring out the towels before the car comes.
