Leaving Side Square is simpler than leaving most hotels in the resort, because the building faces a public junction rather than a long private drive. The car waits on 501. Sokak by the entrance, and from the junction it heads straight back up the boulevard to the D400. In the small hours the streets around the walls are empty, and the run north out of Side takes only a few minutes; in a summer evening, by contrast, the same boulevard carries the traffic of people heading to the old town, so a dusk pickup deserves some slack.

Once the car rejoins the D400 the route is the arrival in reverse: west past Kızılağaç, Serik and the Belek turning, 66 km in all and about 60 minutes to the terminal. Because the hotel's beach is a shuttle ride away, a last swim on departure day costs more time than it looks. Check out first, leave the bags at reception and take the early shuttle, or skip the sea that morning and spend the hour in the garden by the walls instead.

• Agree a pickup time that already includes the trip back from the beach shuttle, rather than counting on catching the car straight off it.
• On a pre-dawn departure, wait inside the lobby: the driver comes to the 501. Sokak entrance and calls once he is there.
• Book the departure leg under the hotel's current name, Side Square Hotel, so the driver heads for the right door.
