Departure starts in the side streets: the car leaves the entrance, rejoins Turizm Caddesi within a block or two and then follows the straight road back to the D400 junction. At dawn none of it is busy. In daytime the slow moment is usually the set of traffic lights where that road meets the highway, because by then a steady stream is heading west from Side and Manavgat. Put the bags at reception before the agreed hour, and if anyone is still on the beach shuttle that morning, allow for its timetable rather than for the walk.

• Work the pickup back from your check-in deadline: fifty-five minutes of driving, plus a margin for the queue at the terminal doors, where every bag goes through a scanner before you reach the airline desk.
• Ask for children's seats on the leg home as well; they are fitted before the car sets out for Çolaklı and cannot be added at the hotel door.
