The return starts in the side streets, not on the highway. From 621. Sokak the car rejoins the Side road, follows it north to the D400 and then turns west for Serik and the airport: 64 km in all and about 60 minutes on an ordinary morning. The town stretch is the part that varies. Before dawn it is empty; on a summer evening, when cars and minibuses are heading for the old town, the first kilometre or two can be noticeably slow.

Being walking distance from the ruins shapes the last day here. With an evening flight, many guests spend the final afternoon in the old town after checking out, and the simplest plan is to come back to the hotel for the luggage and be picked up there, because cars cannot drive into the pedestrian lanes around the harbour. If you would rather leave straight from the old town, say so at booking and agree a meeting point at its edge with your bags already in the car.

• Be at the door at the agreed time with your bags ready, so the driver does not have to hold the car in the street.
• If you plan a last swim, the hotel's beach area is about five minutes' walk away, so a morning dip still fits before a midday pickup.
• Book the pickup for the hour your airline wants you at check-in minus 60 minutes of road, plus a margin for the town streets.
