Shopping in Side happens on foot: the narrow lanes of the old town are full of shops selling souvenirs and leather goods to visitors, and nearby Manavgat has a shopping centre of its own. Driving west for the best part of an hour is about scale. Mall of Antalya stands beside the D400, across the highway from Antalya Airport, and shares one building with Deepo Outlet Center, the two linked on the inside, so one stop covers the chain stores of a big city mall and the marked-down rails of an outlet. An eleven-screen cinema upstairs and play areas for the children make it a whole family day when the sea is rough or the heat too much. Plan it as a day out: off in the morning, home towards evening with a full boot.

From Side to the mall doors it is 60 km, about 55 minutes. The car leaves Side for the D400 and heads west across the farmland of the coastal plain, past Serik, the junctions for Belek and Kadriye, and Aksu. The mall appears on the right, with the airport across the highway, on the eastern edge of Antalya, so neither end involves city-centre traffic. The D400 is the single main road between Antalya and the resorts to its east, Side among them; in summer, holiday transfers, hotel staff and daily commuters all share it, and traffic often comes to a standstill, so leave slack around the return time. You book the ride out; a return pickup, or waiting time while you shop, can be arranged at the same time.

• Mall of Antalya and Deepo share one building with entrances on more than one side, so when you book, name the centre and the entrance where the driver should pick you up, rather than just 'the mall'.
• If something fixed waits for you back in Side that evening, such as a table booked for dinner, set the return pickup with time to spare, because a summer standstill on the D400 can stretch the hour home.
• The drive home takes the best part of an hour, so if four or more of you are going, or a pushchair is coming too, ask for a larger vehicle and let the bags ride in the boot rather than on your knees.
• On a last day with a late flight, the trip can end at the terminal instead: with waiting time booked, the cases stay in the boot while you shop, and the short onward ride to the airport can be arranged at the same time.
