Kemer is made for clear skies, which is exactly why a grey day there drags. Outside the high season a front can roll in off the gulf and sit on the mountains from morning to night: the sunbeds stay stacked, and whatever the hotel offers indoors is used up by lunch. That is the day for 5M Migros Antalya, the shopping centre on the Konyaaltı side of Antalya. Under one roof it puts rows of shops, places to eat, a cinema and the large Migros hypermarket that gives the stop its name, so an afternoon can drift from a film to a slow round of the shops without anyone stepping out into the rain. On a dry day it works just as well, whenever the list has outgrown what Kemer's own streets can offer.

From Kemer to the centre's doors it is 40 km, about 40 minutes. The car heads north on the D400 past Göynük and Beldibi, where the Beydağları drop almost straight into the sea and the road threads the steepest headlands through tunnels, the sea flashing on the right between them. In rain this stretch is best left to someone else: slick bends, spray from the traffic ahead, eyes readjusting at every tunnel mouth. Past the mountains the road enters Antalya from the west, and with the shopping centre in Konyaaltı the drive skips the city centre entirely. You are set down at an entrance, not across a car park. The booking covers this one way; waiting or an evening pickup can be arranged with it, and the bags ride home in the boot.

• A film is the easiest thing to build the day around: book the seats first, then set the pickup in Kemer about an hour before the screening, which covers the 40 minutes on the road and collecting the tickets.
• Foreign films in Turkey are shown either dubbed into Turkish or in the original language with Turkish subtitles, and the listings say which, so check the version before you fix the time.
• A big shopping centre has several doors, so agree at booking on the one where the driver will meet you for the ride back, and at roughly what hour.
• If the afternoon ends at the hypermarket with a week's food for a holiday flat, or with something bulky such as a new suitcase, say so when booking, because boot space is easier to settle beforehand than in the car park.
