Kadriye has a market street, bakeries and pharmacies, which covers an ordinary week and very little beyond it. The city covers the rest, and that is what this leg is for: a department store or an outlet centre instead of a souvenir counter, a bank branch that will deal with a foreign account, a phone or a camera repaired, the museum and the walled town for guests who have seen enough fairway. A good part of it is not holiday traffic either. Much of the golf belt's workforce lives in and around the village, so a trip into Antalya for an office, a school matter or a Sunday with family is an ordinary journey made away from the sea.

Leaving Kadriye you have two roads before you have a road: the lanes between the courses, then the spur north through the pine belt to the D400. Thirty-five kilometres is the fixed part of this; thirty-five minutes is the good version of it. Westbound the fields come first — orange blocks, a cotton field or two, crates stacked at the field gates — and then the city announces itself with traffic rather than with buildings, at the airport junctions where the shuttles and taxis join and the outside lane stops being any use. After that it is Kundu, Lara and whichever boulevard your address sits on.

• Give the pickup as a street and a building in the village, or as the hotel's own gate: the lanes inside the golf belt look alike and several of them run one way past the barriers.
• Decide before you set off whether you want the seafront side of the city or the inland side, because swapping from one to the other in the middle of the day costs more than the drive in.
• If the reason for going is an outlet centre or a big shop, ask for the larger car — the return is the loaded half of this journey.
• Leaving at seven in the morning puts you in the city ahead of the queues rather than in them, and it is the hour that makes 35 minutes realistic.
