From Belek, Manavgat Waterfall is a proper outing rather than a quick hop. The falls are modest in height: the Manavgat River comes out of the hills a few kilometres north of the town and pours over a wide, low ledge of rock, only a few metres tall but white from one bank to the other. Around it lies a shaded park with tea gardens and waterside paths, where spray and trees cool a summer afternoon. Belek hotels mostly sell it as part of a coach tour that gathers guests from several resorts, keeps to a set timetable and often stops at shops on the way. A private car turns that around: you pick the hour and the length of stay, and whether the day carries on into Manavgat.

The leg is 50 km and takes about 50 minutes. From the resort strip the car heads up to the D400 and turns east, away from Antalya, past the junction for Serik and over the river near the signs for Aspendos. The highway then runs straight through farmland and greenhouses below the Taurus foothills, past the turn-off for Side, to the edge of Manavgat. There the car quits the main road and covers the last few kilometres north up the valley to the park gate. Afterwards it is a short drive down into town, to the riverbank where boats tie up and restaurants face the water, or to the bazaar. You book the one-way drive; a return pickup or the car waiting is agreed when booking.

• Do the falls first and the town second, so whatever you buy at the bazaar goes straight into the boot instead of being carried round the park.
• If the waterfall is the whole plan, a waiting time is the simple option; if the day continues in Manavgat, fix a precise meeting point by the river when you book.
• Setting off soon after breakfast puts you on the shaded paths about 50 minutes later, ahead of the day-trip coaches and before the heat builds.
• If your hotel offers a coach excursion, look at how much of its day goes to shops; in a private car the only stops are the ones you ask for.
