The trouble with a hotel whose garden ends on the sand is the last swim. It always seems to fit into the final morning, and it brings a shower, wet towels, swimsuits that will not dry in a suitcase and at least one child who has to be found. None of that is the road's doing: the drive to the terminal is 35 minutes and keeps to it. So book the car for the moment you want to be at the entrance dressed, packed and counted, and reach that moment by working back from the airline's check-in cut-off rather than forward from breakfast.

Leaving, the car goes back up the short road to Turizm Caddesi on the southern side of the town, and from there two roads lead to the D400. One runs west across the golf belt to the Kadriye junction, which is the 35 km route; the other heads north-east out of Belek and joins the highway nearer Serik, a few kilometres longer. The driver takes whichever suits the hour, and the price per vehicle stays what it was at booking either way. Then comes the D400 westbound past Aksu, and finally the airport's own slip roads and drop-off lanes.

• A return arranged later by message should name the hotel in full, Güral Premier Belek, because a car sent to the Tekirova hotel would start on the wrong side of Antalya with no way to win the time back.
• A pushchair or a child seat brought from home counts as luggage for the car, so include it in the bag count when you book the trip back.
• Leaving before seven, you will find the D400 quiet but not the queues inside the terminal, so keep the margin for the airport end instead of trimming it.
