Going home, the route reverses but the timing does not simply mirror the arrival. The forty minutes of road are the fixed part. What moves is the hotel end, where a family checking out has a room to settle, children to collect from the pools and every bag to bring to the lobby, and the airport end, where a charter check-in can close earlier than the departure time suggests. Agree the pickup hour when you book, and if the airline's check-in cut-off is on your ticket, pass that on as well.

The car leaves through the village to the road north and then takes the D400 west, back past the Belek junctions and Aksu; the 43 km to the terminal take the same 40 minutes on a clear road. Summer changeover days are the exception, when coaches from the whole Belek coast converge on the airport at the same hours, so on those days the queue at the terminal doors deserves as much allowance as the drive itself.

• If the beach or the pier claims the last morning, still set the pickup at the hotel entrance; the driver comes to the lobby side, not down to the sand.
• Put the room number or the booking name on the departure request, so reception can tell you the moment the car is at the door.
• Child seats you brought from home can ride in the boot or be fitted for the trip; say which when you book the return.
