Changeover mornings on this beach road belong to the coaches. They start early, they stop at every gate, and between about eight and eleven the road in front of the hotel moves at the pace of whichever one is loading. A private car does not escape that stretch, but it does escape everything that follows it: no second and third hotel to collect from, no wait at the airport while the coach fills, no route chosen by somebody else's flight. What you pay for on a changeover morning is mostly the difference between one stop and nine.

Once clear of Kumköy the run is 66 km and about an hour. Westbound the D400 is at its worst where Serik and then Aksu feed onto it from mid-morning, and there is a second pinch at Manavgat that the eastbound drive in never showed you. The last few minutes are the airport's own: the approach, then the split between terminals and the line of cars along the drop-off kerb, which in August takes longer than the final kilometre of open road did.

• On a changeover morning the beach road is the slow bit, so a pickup half an hour earlier than the arithmetic says costs nothing and buys a lot.
• The fare covers the whole car to one address, so a group leaving together pays once rather than per seat.
