Planning a departure from Boğazkent begins with the one road out. There is no alternative to it, so when a lorry is backing into a greenhouse yard everything behind it waits, and on this lane that is a morning event rather than a rare one. The margin you build is therefore for the lane out of the village, not for the main road that makes up most of the 44 km. Add the month as well, because the airport in August asks more of your morning than the same airport in March, and count the whole thing backwards from the hour the desk shuts.

Going out, the lane runs on the clock of the produce trade rather than the holiday one. The crates move early, so from about seven until late morning the road is at its most obstructed and it loosens off afterwards. Above the village the climb to the D400 is quick, and then you are westbound with the sun behind you through Serik and Aksu, where the junctions hold things up on any working morning. The airport end is untouched by all of that: the slip road, the approach and the terminal kerb, each taking what it takes.

• If the lane is blocked when the car comes there is no way round it, only through, so put that possibility into the pickup time instead of trusting a detour.
• An afternoon or evening flight lets you leave after the lorries have finished, which is the easiest version of this road.
• Nothing on the village street is open at five in the morning, so whatever you want for the journey has to be bought the day before.
