Heading home, the car comes back up from the coast to the D400 at Gündoğdu and turns west. This end of the Side coast has an advantage in the morning: the queues that build around Manavgat and the Side junction are behind you from the first minute, and the only real pressure points on the way to the terminal are Serik and then Aksu, with the Belek traffic joining in between. Before dawn the 55 km pass quickly; from mid-morning in high season the run can stretch past the 50 minutes, so leave yourself a margin.

In the dark, three Royal Atlantis signs close to one another are the usual cause of a missed pickup, so the departure booking needs to name the Icon as plainly as the arrival did. Have the cases down in the lobby before the agreed hour and tell reception the evening before when the car is due, so whoever is on the door expects it. With a late flight, ask the hotel to hold your luggage after checkout rather than booking the car early and waiting at the terminal.

• Count the pickup time back from the flight: about 50 minutes of road, the check-in window your airline asks for, and some spare on summer Saturdays when hotel changeovers fill the D400.
• Repeat Royal Atlantis Icon on the return booking too, because at night the Beach Hotel entrance a few hundred metres away is easily taken for yours.
• The fare per vehicle is fixed at booking, so a slow crawl through Serik moves the clock and nothing else.
