On the way back the slow part comes first: the short road out of Titreyengöl, the roundabout, and three kilometres of Hüseyin Avni Akın Caddesi running north through Manavgat's outer districts to the highway. Before six in the morning that street is almost empty; from mid-morning it carries school buses, delivery vans and people running errands, and a few extra minutes there are normal. Once on the D400, the run west past the Side turning, Serik and Aksu is straightforward, and the 65 minutes allowed for the 71 km already assume the town stretch at an ordinary pace.

Put Paloma Orenda Resort, Acısu Mevkii Sokak 22, on the booking so the driver uses the Orenda entrance road. The grounds are large, so leave a few minutes between closing the room door and reaching reception with the cases; the car waits at the main entrance. Families who spent their last morning at Palomaqua usually have damp swimwear and inflatables to fit in, so check the bag count once more and tell us if it has grown.

• Settle the departure hour at booking, not at reception: 65 minutes on the road, then add your airline's check-in window, which tends to be longer for international flights in July and August.
• Child seats used on arrival do not stay at the hotel, so request them again for the drive back to the airport.
• The per-vehicle fare is agreed in advance, so a slow crawl through Manavgat leaves the bill exactly where it was.
