Departure from LIU starts in village streets: the car climbs from Kısalar back to the D400 near Gündoğdu, a short stretch that is almost deserted before dawn. From there the drive west retraces the way in, past Serik, the Belek junction and Aksu, and the 55 km usually take about 50 minutes outside the busiest summer mornings. Because the resort lies on the airport side of Side, the car never meets the town traffic at the Side and Manavgat junctions that pickups further east have to work through.

The layout of the grounds matters on the last morning. Rooms are a few hundred metres from the beach and the cart shuttle is the link, so a final swim followed by a dash back to pack can take longer than it sounds. Leave the cases at reception before going down to the water, and have the car booked to the main entrance at Merkez Sokak 103-104, where the driver will look for you at the agreed time.

• Count backwards from the flight: 50 minutes of road, then the check-in time your airline gives, often two to three hours for international departures.
• Give the number of suitcases and any pushchair when you book, so that a car with enough boot space is sent.
• For a very early flight, settle the room bill the evening before, so the departure is not held up at a cash desk that has not yet opened.
