Denizyaka is a quiet coastal settlement east of the Manavgat river, with cotton, citrus and rows of greenhouses behind it and a beach that on most days belongs to whoever is standing on it. There is no hotel strip and no parade of shops, only small hotels, pensions and summer houses spread along the shore road. The people who come here are rarely package guests: more often they are returning visitors, owners of a summer house, or families who want the quiet enough to accept 96 km of road at the end of the flight.

Allow about 80 minutes for the 96 km. The highway does the work as far as Kızılot, after which the coastal plain widens into cotton, citrus and greenhouses and the hotel boards give way to farm gates. Denizyaka sits east of the Manavgat river, so you turn off the D400 before the bridge rather than after it, and the last few kilometres are a single lane between fields: little lighting, no illuminated signs, and house numbers that mean nothing after dark. That final stretch, not the highway, is the part of this journey worth preparing for.

• Approaching from the east the shore-road turnings all look alike after dark, so agree a landmark near your accommodation rather than relying on the village name.
• Alanya is the last large town the route passes, so ask for a supply stop there: Manavgat now lies beyond your destination instead of before it.
• Taxis do not wait on corners in a place this quiet and the airport is 96 km away, so book the return leg when you book the arrival.
• Most of what opens here opens for the summer only, so on out-of-season dates confirm your accommodation is trading before you arrange the car.
