Titreyengöl is built around a shallow freshwater lake held behind the dunes east of Side, at the edge of the Sorgun pine forest: reed beds at one end, pines and low hotel blocks around the rest, and a footpath that closes the circle. Nothing here is tall and nothing is far from water — the lake on one side of the hotels, the sea over the dune on the other. The name means trembling lake, after the soft ground at the reedy end, and the circuit round the shore is what most guests walk every evening.

The leg is 106 km and about 90 minutes, and it is worth knowing how it is shaped. Every bend is in the first half hour: the cliff road west of Gazipaşa climbs and falls above Demirtaş and Mahmutlar before the coast flattens out and the rest runs straight. The last few minutes are the loop road round the lake itself, where the car crawls between walkers, bicycles and hotel entrances set close together. The demanding part of this transfer comes at the beginning and the fiddly part at the end, with an easy hour in between.

• Hotel names around the lake repeat, so book with the full name and, if you know it, the side of the loop the entrance is on.
• If you are prone to travel sickness, note that the cliff bends west of Gazipaşa fall in the first half hour of this route rather than at the end.
• The lake is fresh water and the beach is over the dune behind the hotels, so check which of the two your room actually faces.
• In the evening the loop fills with people walking round the lake, so a late pick-up leaves the hotel more slowly than the map suggests.
