Leaving is quick from this end of Çolaklı. A kilometre and a half of local road puts the car back on the D400, so very little of the departure goes on the village streets. Then it is the dual carriageway west through Gündoğdu's lights, past Serik and the Belek turnings, and the 55 minutes quoted for the 57 km hold going back as well as coming in, unless a summer changeover day has filled the junctions.

Being set back from the beach helps on a dark morning: the car stops on the street at the front entrance, with no promenade or beach lane to drag cases along. Agree the pickup hour when you book, and work it out backwards from the flight: 55 minutes of driving plus the check-in margin your airline gives, which on a summer international departure is often about three hours. If the flight time moves, tell us rather than the reception desk, and the pickup moves with it.

• A last swim before an afternoon pickup means walking back across the road with wet towels and then a shower; leave time for both before checkout.
