Leaving a villa is not like leaving a hotel room: more people, more bags, and often a pool's worth of wet towels and inflatables to sort out. When you book, say whether the car should come to the villa or to the main entrance, and check with reception which they prefer for vehicles on the grounds. Have one person count the cases before the driver loads them. With the airport this close there is no reason to set off early; the time is better spent by your own pool.

The way back is 14 km and normally 20 minutes: out through Güzeloba, onto the airport road and up to the terminal. What lengthens it is the weekday commute, when the crossroads between the coast and the airport road fill with cars heading home from the city in the early evening, so a pickup in that window should be set a little earlier. Outside those hours the run seldom takes longer than the 20 minutes stated, and late at night it can be quicker still.

• Give the villa number with the departure booking, so the driver can be directed to the right door rather than to the main lobby.
• List infant and booster seats for the children in the departure booking, with their ages, so the right ones come with the car.
• Walk once round the villa and the poolside before you go; with a private garden, forgotten things are usually outdoors rather than in the bedrooms.
