Leaving Kızılağaç, the first job is getting through Manavgat. The D400 runs right through the town, with traffic lights, the river bridge and the busiest junctions of the whole drive, and on market days and summer mornings this stretch can cost more time than all the open highway beyond it. Before sunrise it is clear, and the 81 km to the terminal take about 70 minutes; from mid-morning onwards, expect Manavgat to slow the car down before the dual carriageway opens up past the Side junction.

Because this is the far eastern end of the Side coast, the departure pickup comes noticeably earlier than from hotels beside Side itself, and copying the time given to friends staying there is a common mistake. The car pulls up at the main entrance; bring the cases down to reception before the agreed hour rather than waiting in the room for a call, and keep passports and boarding documents in the hand luggage rather than packed in a case that goes into the boot.
