Going home, the car comes to the hotel entrance on 651. Sokak, threads out through Kumköy to the Side road and then climbs north to the D400. Before about seven in the morning these local streets are close to empty and the highway is reached within minutes. On high-season mornings, though, the Side road fills with excursion coaches picking up guests for Aspendos and the canyon tours, and that is where the time goes. Once the car is westbound on the D400, Serik, the Belek turn-off and Aksu pass in reverse order, and the 63 km take about 55 minutes in normal traffic.

Because the old town is so near, many guests spend the last afternoon wandering Side and only then go back for the luggage. That works well as long as the pickup is set at the hotel rather than at the ruins: private cars are kept out of the old town's centre, and a pickup there would mean dragging suitcases from the car park. Collect the bags first and let the driver meet you at Arum's reception, where the cases can be loaded without a long walk.

• For a morning departure, count back from the check-in deadline: 55 minutes on the road plus whatever your airline asks, remembering that in peak weeks the security screening at the terminal door has its own queue.
• If the room must be vacated at noon but the flight leaves in the evening, ask reception about storing luggage and book the car for the later hour; the driver collects from the hotel entrance.
• A changed flight time is easiest to handle a day ahead, through the same booking, rather than on the morning itself.
