Going back, the road begins at the gate. Dumlupınar Bulvarı runs north from the shore up to Gazi Bulvarı, the D400's route across the top of the city, which carries on east to the airport turning. Outside the rush hours the 22 km take about 25 minutes. Inside them it is an ordinary city run: weekday mornings and early evenings put the commuters on the same boulevards, so a pickup at eight on a Tuesday needs more margin than one at six on a Sunday.

When the flight leaves in the evening, the last afternoon after checkout needs a plan. Here it can be made on foot: the aquarium across the boulevard is indoors, the Beach Park cafés are a short walk east, and Kaleiçi is a short ride away if you want the old town once more. Whatever you choose, settle at booking where the car should come and leave the cases there, because the driver works from the address and the hour on the booking, not from wherever the afternoon has taken you.

• On its own website the hotel calls itself Hotel SU, under the Sunis Hotels name, while booking sites list Sunis Hotel Su; it is the same building, so either name on the voucher will do.
• A pickup in the weekday morning rush crosses the city along with its commuters, so add a margin to the 25 minutes or leave before the traffic builds.
• If the last afternoon goes on Aqualand or the aquarium, keep the pickup at the hotel entrance all the same; both are next door, and one fixed meeting point saves a search along the boulevard.
