Leaving Kumköy early is the easy part: in the first light, Cumhuriyet Bulvarı is all but empty and the car is back up on the D400 within minutes. Later in the morning the boulevard and the junction with the highway carry more traffic, so the first few kilometres take longer. Once on the highway it is the westbound run past Serik and Belek to the terminal, 60 km and around 55 minutes in normal traffic.

The car collects you at the hotel's entrance on the boulevard, not at the beach section, so if the last morning is spent by the sea, catch a shuttle back with time to spare. Be in the lobby with the bags closed at the agreed time, so that loading takes a minute and the car can set off at once. When booking the departure, give the number of passengers, the cases and any child seats, so the right vehicle is sent.

• Work the pickup out backwards from take-off: 55 minutes of driving, plus the check-in time your airline asks for, usually around three hours for an international flight in summer.
