The way out starts with Manavgat. From the gate the car climbs back north up the same four kilometres of town streets, and it is the junction with the D400 at the western edge of town that sets the pace: almost empty before six, busy from mid-morning with buses, delivery vans and market traffic. Once on the highway, the car runs west past the Side junctions, Serik and Aksu on dual carriageway, and outside the summer peaks the 70 km take close to the 65 minutes quoted.

Bungalow rooms spread a hotel out, and on departure morning the walk from a far corner of the garden to the lobby with suitcases can take longer than you expect. Ask reception the evening before whether bags can be collected from the room, and aim to be at the front with everything a little before the agreed time. Clear the beach bag the day before as well: the sand is a ride away, and anything left there is hard to retrieve on the last morning.

• Set the pickup hour when you book the return, counting back from the flight: 65 minutes of road, the check-in time your airline asks for, and a margin for the Manavgat junction in high summer.
• Child seats for the departure have to be requested as well; they are fitted before the car leaves for Titreyengöl.
• Write Serra Park Hotel, Titreyengöl on the return booking, so that nobody confuses it with the group's other two hotels at Evrenseki or Kızılot.
