The way back runs in reverse, and the part that varies comes right at the start. Akdeniz Bulvarı is a beach road before it is a through route: empty before sunrise, busier in summer when the city comes down to the seafront. Once the car has left the bay behind, it crosses the north of Antalya eastwards to the airport turn-off. An early departure fits the 25 km into the 30 minutes quoted with room to spare; in the weekday rush, the city section is where that margin goes.

On the last day it is the beach, not the road, that tends to run over. The hotel's stretch of shore is just across the boulevard, close enough that one more swim always seems possible. Book the pickup for the moment you need to be in the car rather than for checkout, keep wet things in a bag of their own so they stay out of the cases bound for the hold, and be at the entrance with everyone and everything when the car pulls in. With the hotel on the inland side, nobody has to cross the road with luggage.

• Konyaaltı is the city's own beach, and on summer weekends its residents fill the boulevard too, so a Saturday or Sunday afternoon pickup should allow for a slow start.
• With a late flight and a midday checkout, ask reception where the cases can wait; the beach across the road can then fill the afternoon without the luggage in tow.
