Fethiye to Kalkan private transfer

For most passengers this is the back half of a holiday that began somewhere else. A gulet cruise ends at Fethiye harbour, or a coach arrives from Marmaris or Bodrum, and the week that follows is a villa above Kalkan bay: a pool, a table on the roof, a beach reached by boat. Families split the fortnight on purpose — first a hotel with something for the children to do, then quiet. It happens the other way round too, out of an apartment at Çalış because relatives have taken a house further down the coast. Whatever the reason, everyone arrives with more luggage than they packed at home.

South-east out of Fethiye the road takes the easy ground first: a quarter of an hour of flat farmland, plastic-roofed fields, the Eşen somewhere to your right on its way to the sea. Then it starts to work — low hills, the Patara turning, Xanthos on its bluff, and a long succession of bends with no straight to relax on. The 80 km take about seventy minutes, and the last ten are not open road at all: the turn off the D400 and the drop into Kalkan, where the lanes narrow, steepen and eventually stop having room for a car.

• Villa keys are often held in an office in the town rather than at the house, so say whether the first stop is the key and the second the door.
• If it is a cruise that ends at the harbour, the boat and not the clock decides when you actually get away, so give the berth and the name of the vessel.
• The beach at Kalkan is pebble and most of the swimming is done at clubs you get to by boat or by minibus, so expect the first afternoon to be the pool rather than the sand.
• No part of this road has two lanes each way, so an hour and ten stays an hour and ten whether you leave at seven or at two — only the light changes.
