From the northern side of the centre the terminal is close, but the road to it is a run of roundabouts. The car leaves along Adnan Menderes Bulvarı, works back through Kızılırmak Caddesi and Köroğlu Bulvarı and the districts beyond, and joins the ring road towards the airport only near the end. Sixteen kilometres in 20 minutes is fair early in the morning or late at night; in the weekday rush, with every roundabout full of commuters, the same distance stretches. Set the pickup by the hour of the day, not by the distance on the map.

A business trip often ends with one more meeting on the last morning. If yours does, decide before you book whether the car should collect you at the hotel or at the meeting place, and give both the address and the time when you arrange the return. On a city boulevard a car cannot idle at the kerb for long, so be in the lobby with the bags already down when the agreed hour comes. Loading takes a minute; after that the car is back in the flow and heading east.

• Write DoubleTree City Centre and Adnan Menderes Bulvarı on the return booking rather than just DoubleTree, so nobody plans a pickup in Kemer.
• An early-afternoon flight finds the city calm and the 20 minutes holds; a pickup between eight and ten in the morning needs a wider margin.
• A late checkout before an evening flight leaves a gap to fill, and MarkAntalya, about a kilometre away, is an easy place to spend it before the car collects you at the hotel.
