Crowne Plaza Antalya to Antalya Airport: return transfer & taxi

The return retraces the arrival: east along the seafront, then the long crossing of the city to the airport on its far side. Because nearly all of the 25 km run through Antalya, the timing varies more here than on drives from the resort coast east of the airport, where most of the distance is open road. Before seven in the morning the boulevards are empty and 30 minutes is generous; in the weekday rush, morning or early evening, the route is shared with a whole city going to work or coming home, and it is the crossing, not the seafront, that stretches.

An evening flight leaves a gap between checkout and the car, and a hotel inside the city fills it more easily than a resort does: the beach is across the road, and Kaleiçi and the city centre are a short ride east. The one rule worth keeping is to be back at the hotel for the hour you booked. The car comes to the address on the booking, and moving the pickup to another part of the city on the day, by a late message, is how a simple departure becomes a complicated one.

• On the return booking write Crowne Plaza Antalya, Konyaaltı; a message that says only Plaza could just as easily mean the Ramada Plaza near the old town.
• For a pickup in the weekday rush hours, set the time earlier than the 30-minute drive suggests, because the crossing of the city is where those minutes go.
• Check the room safe before you come down: a passport left behind is usually missed only at the check-in desk, by which time the car is on the far side of Antalya.
