The departure starts with the last few kilometres in reverse: the short lane back to Süleyman Demirel Bulvarı, Sahil Caddesi north-west along the shore, then the road up to the D400. Those three kilometres are the only part of the 63 that runs through the resort, and they are the part that varies, empty in the small hours and slower on a summer evening when Kumköy is out walking to dinner. On the D400 the run west through Gündoğdu and past Serik and Aksu is dual carriageway, and the 55 minutes is a fair figure for most of the year; allow more for a midday pickup in July or August.

Kumköy is a long line of hotels along one boulevard, and in the dark one gateway looks much like the next, so the departure booking should say Armas Bella Sun and Bingesik Mevkii, with the name the room is under. Because the beach is a few hundred metres from the building, a last swim on the morning you leave takes longer than it seems: the walk back, a shower, wet swimwear into a bag. Aim to be back in the room an hour before the car, whose hour is worked back from your flight and fixed when you book.

• The agreed pickup time is when the car is at the entrance; if the airline moves your flight, send us the new time directly rather than leaving word at reception.
• Last-evening shopping in Side's old town is easiest on foot along the footpath, but anything bulky you buy there, a rug for instance, belongs in the luggage count for the car.
• A party too large for one car can travel together in a minibus; give the head count and the number of bags so a single vehicle collects everyone at Bella Sun's entrance.
