Almost nobody plans a Boğazkent holiday around Gazipaşa. The village sits east of Belek where the Acısu stream reaches the sea, and the airport closest to it is Antalya's. People land at GZP for it because the flight came with the package, or because the seat was cheap while the room had long been booked: a charter into a small seasonal airport and a hotel 125 km further west. What waits at the other end is the quietest corner of the Belek coast — low buildings, a protected beach where loggerheads nest, greenhouses a street back from the water. What comes first is a long drive.

Gazipaşa has one small terminal, so you are in the car a few minutes after the baggage belt — the last quick part of the day. The road climbs off the coastal shelf the airport stands on, takes the cliff curves west through Mahmutlar and Kestel, then crosses Alanya itself, the one town on this coast that the road goes through rather than around. After that the D400 opens out beyond Avsallar and Okurcalar, passes Manavgat and the Side turnings and drops onto the flat Belek plain. Allow about 1 hour 45 minutes for the 125 km; at night it runs faster, but the last lanes into the village are unlit.

• Small hotels and apartment buildings here stand on unmarked lanes, so send the exact name of the property rather than just Boğazkent.
• Drop the map pin on the hotel gate rather than on the beach behind it: the last stretch runs inland between the greenhouses, and a pin on the water sends the car the long way round.
• Send the flight number rather than the landing time, because a charter that leaves an hour late is still met at the right hour.
• If you fly home from Gazipaşa too, count the same 125 km backwards when you set the pickup time, because the road east is no quicker than the road west was.
