Most Kemer hotels have a pool and some have a slide or two, but a family that has used those up by midweek tends to look north, to the water park where Konyaaltı beach meets the city. It sits in the wooded grove behind the shore towards the eastern end of the beach, by the beach park, and many people still call it Aqualand, or Aqualand Dolphinland, although these days it trades as Waterhill. The slides and the wave pool are all in the open air, which makes this a warm-season outing and a whole-day one: you set off after breakfast with swimsuits already on under your clothes, spend the hours between pools and slides, and leave only when the gates are closing.

The drive is 42 km, about 40 minutes, with no need to cross the city: the park lies on the Kemer side of Antalya. From the resort the D400 heads north past Göynük and Beldibi, the Beydağları climbing steeply to the left, the water close on the right, and tunnels boring through the headlands. Then the mountains fall back and the road runs the length of Konyaaltı parallel to the beach, to the park at its far end. What you book is that one leg, priced per car rather than per person; if the same car should bring you back, add a return pickup or waiting time at booking. Coming home is the other half of the day: damp towels in the boot, the cliff bends, and children asleep before the first tunnel.

• Check the park's closing time for your date and set the pickup a little after it rather than on the minute, because the whole park empties at once and the children still need to shower and change.
• Bag the wet towels and swimsuits for the boot and keep a dry top within reach for each child, since after a day in the water even mild air conditioning feels cold.
• A child who has spent the day on the slides may well sleep most of the way back, so ask for child seats at booking and give the children's ages, rather than holding a sleeping child upright on a lap.
• The 42 km runs from Kemer town itself; a hotel up at Beldibi is nearer the park and one down at Tekirova is further, so name the hotel rather than the resort when you book.
